Permanent Resident Visa
I Have Some Savings but a Low Income. Is It Still Possible for Me to Apply for Permanent Residence?

To obtain Permanent Residence in Japan, having a substantial amount of savings may not be enough if your income is low. The Immigration Bureau places greater importance on the stability of an applicant’s income rather than their savings.
Permanent Residence is designed for individuals who plan on residing in Japan for an extended period. Therefore, the ability to maintain a steady income is a crucial factor in the application evaluation process. Applicants with a stable and sufficient income, even without significant savings, can still be approved.
While having some savings is always a good idea, it is not necessarily a requirement for obtaining Permanent Residence. However, it can provide an extra layer of security.
Q. If I took out a loan when purchasing a house or car, will it affect my application for permanent residence?
A. If you have a stable income every month, and it can cover your monthly expense including your mortgage payments, then it would be still possible for you to be approved for a permanent residence visa!
However, if your monthly living expenses, including the loan repayment, exceed your monthly income, you may not be considered living a stable life, so it will be difficult to obtain permission for permanent residence.
Additionally, for those who are still repaying their scholarship.
As long as you can pay it off every month, you can still be approved for permanent residency!
The actual approval likelihood will depend on whether you have family members depending on you, the number of dependents, etc., and need to be judged case by case.
