What is the legal basis for granting or denying a visa?
Under international customary law, the issuance of a visa to a foreigner is considered an act of sovereignty of each country. In Japan, consular officials conduct visa-related affairs based on Article 4, Paragraph 13; Article 7, Paragraph 1; and Article 10, Paragraphs 2 and 3 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Establishment Law.
How is the personal information submitted during the visa application process handled?
The personal information of visa applicants, invitees, and guarantors is managed appropriately in accordance with the "Personal Information Protection Law."
Why was I denied entry even though I have a valid visa?
A visa is one of the requirements for applying for landing in Japan and does not guarantee entry (this is noted on the visa application form, and you sign the form acknowledging this.). Even if you have a valid visa, you will not be allowed to enter if, at the time of entry, the person applying for landing is different from the person named on the passport and visa or if there are other reasons for denying entry.
I lost my passport with the visa sticker on it. What should I do?
Please contact the Japanese embassy or consulate-general where you received the visa. It is also recommended to report the loss to your local police station. If you need a new visa, you will have to reapply.
I postponed my trip. Until when is the visa I obtained valid?
A single-entry visa (a visa that becomes invalid once you enter Japan) is generally valid for 3 months from the date of issuance. Please undergo the entry inspection at the airport or other ports of entry within this validity period. If the visa expires, you will need to apply for a visa again.
When should I pay the fee?
When you come for a consultation and decide to hire us, we will enter into a contract. At the time of signing the contract, we kindly ask for half of the payment upfront. Once the application has been submitted and approved, we will collect the remaining half. We can be flexible based on individual circumstances, so please feel free to discuss with us.
What happens if the application is denied even after hiring a professional?
At our office, we maintain an extremely high approval rate by carefully pre-screening and advising clients who may face the risk of denial. However, in the rare event that the application is denied, we will reapply on your behalf at no additional cost.
What is the difference between applying by oneself and hiring a professional?
The preparation of necessary documents can be quite challenging, and the success rate for visa acquisition can vary greatly. The required documents change depending on the applicant's situation. By hiring a professional, they ensure that the appropriate information is included in the statement of reasons, while avoiding mentioning things that shouldn't be written. As a result, there's no risk of unintentionally writing something that could lead to a visa denial. With their expertise, they can apply using methods that increase the likelihood of approval. Moreover, they can handle interactions with the Immigration Bureau on your behalf, ensuring a smoother process and higher chances of success.
How long does it take from consultation to the granting of permission?
Once the application is submitted to the Immigration Bureau, there's a standard processing period, during which you'll need to wait. For residence status renewals or changes, it typically takes about 2 weeks to a month. For the issuance of a Certificate of Eligibility, it can take between 1 to 3 months. Permanent residency applications usually take around 4 months, and naturalization processes can take from 8 months up to about a year. If further verification (like the submission of additional documents, personal interviews, or inquiries) is needed, the process might take even longer.
